Morris Care’s Stretton Hall in Church Stretton, Shropshire, held a ‘Platinum Party’ for a special couple on their 70th wedding anniversary.
Neville Mansfield, aged 92, and wife Joyce, aged 91, were joined by their friends, family and fellow residents to commemorate an incredible 70 years together as a happily married couple.
Residents were cordially invited to attend the celebrations where cheese and wine was served, accompanied by some of the couple’s favourite music. The room was also decorated beautifully to mark this very special day.
The pair were childhood sweethearts from the age of seven and were married at Belle Vue Methodist Church, Shrewsbury, in 1948. They went on to have two children, one of whom was delighted to be able to join them at the party.
Angela, the couple’s daughter, said: “I am so overwhelmed with the effort that the team at Stretton Hall have gone to, to ensure Mum and Dad have a truly special time celebrating this milestone. I’m so happy I could be here and it was great to see them have a fabulous afternoon with friends and fellow residents.”
“Mum and Dad’s secret to a happy marriage is definitely to love unconditionally, laugh a lot and compromise every now and again!”
Stretton Hall regularly hold activities throughout the year to give residents some variety and to stimulate their minds. From live entertainment and visits from therapy dogs, to afternoons in their in-house vintage tea room and screenings of the Planet Earth documentary, the Home goes above and beyond to provide an exciting and invigorating activity schedule.
Issy Pitts, Social Life Coordinator at Stretton Hall who organised the celebrations, said: “Offering a diverse range of activities is all part of our mission to enable our residents to continue living fulfilling lives with us. This was a really special opportunity that doesn’t come around often and I was truly honoured to be able to organise it for Neville and Joyce. I am so glad they had a fantastic time.”
