‘One in a million’ Peggy celebrates her 100th birthday at Oldbury Grange Nursing Home

Oldbury Grange Nursing Home in Bridgnorth hosted a special 100th birthday celebration for resident Marjory Honick, known as Peggy, last weekend.

Friends and family of Peggy wanted to mark her 100th birthday with party to remember with 25 guests celebrating in a gazebo on the front lawn. Peggy’s birthday highlights included a surprise visit from her nieces Philippa and Pamela and being reunited with family members who had travelled from Australia. She was delighted to see them all.

Staff at Oldbury Grange Nursing Home say that Peggy is ‘one in a million’, and helped decorate the gazebo with rose gold 100th balloons, banners, flowers and bottles of bubbly to celebrate with her friends.

Born in Smethwick and later living in Handsworth where she worked as a company secretary for the Medicines Evaluation Board and met husband Henry Victor Honick, who was on the Board of Directors. Together they had four children.

Peggy has been at Oldbury Grange for three and a half years, and enjoys completing crosswords and puzzles in her spare time. Her tip for reaching 100 is to “play by the rules, always do the right thing by others and live life to the fullest”.

Lisa Bradley, General Manager at Oldbury Grange, said “It was a pleasure to host Peggy’s 100th birthday party over the weekend, we certainly had the weather for it! Peggy is a wonderful lady, and always shows compassion and consideration for others. We were delighted to be able to share her celebrations alongside her friends and family.”
