Although we haven't experienced quite the extremities of weather we had last winter, temperatures across Shropshire and Cheshire are set to plummet tonight, reaching as low as -4°C.
As well as looking out for yourself and keeping your house toasty, it’s important to keep an eye out for the elderly or lonely residents in your community. Those over the age of 65 are most vulnerable in this weather and many refrain from saying something because they don’t want to be a nuisance or impede on anyone. However, the cold weather poses some serious threats to the frail or vulnerable.
For those of you who are worried by this cold weather forecast:
- Make sure you keep your house warm with the central heating, a fire or extra heaters – don’t leave it too late to sort out any heating issues you have
- Try to keep moving if you can and avoid sitting down for long periods of time
- Ensure you eat well and have at least one hot meal a day and hot drinks throughout the day
- To help prevent chilblains, don’t sit too close to a heater or radiator but ensure you wear warm, thick clothing, snuggle up in blankets and wear hats, gloves and scarves when you go outside
Check the weather forecast regularly, look out for each other and keep warm everyone!
