We have unveiled a commemorative bench in memory of a popular, nature-loving Shrewsbury man.
Kenneth Quin was a resident at the Morris Care’s Isle Court Nursing Home on two occasions over the last three years but passed away late last year.
Although originally born in London, Ken moved to Shrewsbury over 50 years ago, adopting the 'rolling hills of Shropshire' as 'home'.
The highly regarded family-man was honoured by relatives, resident and staff at the unveiling of the bench.
The bench reads ‘Just sit a while – and smile – at nature’s beauty’ alongside a carved robin and butterfly, which reflect Ken’s love for nature.
Ken’s five children (Roy, Angela, Diana, Tony and Terry) and wider family donated the bench to show their appreciation for the excellent care he received during his time at the home. The bench sits in the garden at the entrance to the home, where family, visitors and residents can relax, spend time with and remember loved ones.
Family member Miriam Quin said: “Ken was very happy during his time at Isle Court and the nursing staff were very experienced to both his medical and personal needs. He loved the gardens, the birds and butterflies, and everything that spelled ‘nature’. We believe that the time spent at the nursing home helped him immensely in accepting the changes in his physical self, as well as the psychological support he received.”
Home Manager, Roberto Tumaliuan, added: “Ken was a great character who we will never forget. When we heard that the family were planning to give something back to the home for the care he received we were delighted. We held a special event to unveil the finished bench to the family and were joined by some of our residents who were excited to be part of the celebrations.”
